New Regulations For Gas Boilers
-
From 1st April 2005, when you plan to install or replace a new gas boiler you will need a condensing boiler to meet the high standards of energy efficiency as set out by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) who are responsible for the new building regulations designed to combat global warming and have set targets to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20% by 2010.
-
Home energy is responsible for 28% of UK carbon emissions. The average household with gas central heating consumes about 23,000 kilowatt hours of energy each year, of this 84% is for heating and hot water.
-
Older types of ordinary boilers may only convert as little as 55% of the fuel they use into useful heat, condensing boilers convert 90% or more into useful heat. Condensing boilers have a large heat exchanger which extracts more heat from the flue gases. So you could see a saving of around 30% on your heating bills.
-
The correct installations of new effective controls will increase operating efficiencies. Especially when older systems are being updated. They also provide the householder with the opportunity to minimise energy consumption thus saving on what is now very expensive fuel.
-
Similar standards will apply to oil-fired systems to come into effect 1st April 2007.
-
Your new gas boiler, when fitted by a Corgi registered installer, will be issued with a building regulations compliance certificate (to show all works meet building regulations standards) and the local authority informed of the fitting of your new or replacement boiler. This document will be important should you ever decide to sell your house.

A M Hancock & Son have recently been awarded a prestigious Worcester Bosch national enviroment award for an installation in Bath and hold all relevant boiler installation certificates, including the new certificate in energy efficiency for domestic heating now required by building regulations.
